Volunteer/Intern Positions & Descriptions
Outreach Prep Team Member:
This position is responsible for helping prepare and assemble the food and hygiene bags that are passed out during our bi-weekly outreach program. Qualified persons must be willing to donate a max of two hours time (10am-12pm) on the 2nd & 4th Saturday of every month unless other dates have been arranged previously by the outreach coordinator. This position involves meal preparation (some hot meal preparation during winter months) and minor heavy lifting.
Outreach Team Member:
This position is responsible for canvassing specified areas in Detroit to pass out food, hygiene products & MSK literature to the homeless. Qualified persons must be willing to donate a max of two hours (1pm-3pm) on the 2nd & 4th Sunday of every month unless specified previously by the outreach coordinator. This position involves having direct contact with the homeless population and working in various types of weather. Qualified persons will also be willing and able to be on their feet the entire time of their shift.
Donation Pick-up Team Member (DPTM):
This position is responsible for picking up scheduled donation pick-ups. Qualified persons will have their own reliable transportation and will be willing to give 4 days out of the month that they are willing to be on-call for donation pick-ups. DPTMs will always travel in a team and are responsible for coordinating a meeting spot before going to pick up donations. DPTMs are also responsible for dropping off donations that they have picked up within 48 hours unless other arrangements have been made with the DPTM coordinator. (When choosing your on call days please give at least 3 consecutive hours that you are willing to be on call for that day.)
Children’s Activity Leader (CAL):
This position is responsible for coming up with some and implementing all children’s activity during our Single Mother Support Group every 2nd & 4th Tuesdays from 6pm-8pm as well as some of our other events. Qualified persons must willing and able to supervise children of all ages and have some experience with child care. Qualified persons will also have a creative mind and a fun easy going spirit that can keep children engaged in activities for the two hour the group. CALs are asked to arrive 15 minutes before the group begins to prep for the day. (Days of support group are subject to change and your schedule can be reasonably accommodated and an interview is required for this position )
This position will be responsible for assisting with the day to day office duties of MSK. The MSK Intern will have to have to commit to being in the office 2 days a week. Aside from participating in the office work MSK Intern will be obligated to attend some events and meetings that pertain to the growth of the organization. This is a very hands-on position that is ideal for a college student that is interested in gaining nonprofit management experience. Qualified persons must be working toward a human service degree, 18 or older and be able to commit to at least 6 months. (Interview is required for this position)
MSK Detroit: talk radio Intern:
This position will be responsible for helping with the production of MSK Detroit as well as assisting in sending correspondence to future and previous guest and other small clerical duties. Qualified persons will have some technical knowledge of internet radio. A candidate does not need to have experience but must be willing to learn and able to work in and adapt in a fast paced environment. We do ask that those who are applying for this position are willing to stay informed on current events especially those pertaining to women and be able to share and vocalize your opinions as well as ask questions in a business appropriate manner. You must be able to meet every Wednesday from 6pm-10pm unless another time and date is specified in advance. (Interview is required for this position)
Social Media Intern:
This position is responsible for updating all of social media pages as required. This position is best for a person that is already social media savvy and doesn’t mind tweeting, instagramming and facebooking throughout the day. Qualified persons must be over 18 years of age and can provide a socially responsible and respectable image online. This position requires that you have good judgment skills and you are responsible for clearing all post through the social media coordinator. Hours for this position vary. (Interview is required for this position)
